Hot Hojicha Latte (Printable)

Aromatic roasted green tea blended with creamy steamed milk creates this comforting Japanese beverage. Ready in 10 minutes.

# What You'll Need:

→ Tea

01 - 2 teaspoons hojicha powder (roasted green tea powder)
02 - 1/2 cup hot water (about 175°F)

→ Milk

03 - 1 1/2 cups milk (dairy or plant-based)

→ Sweetener

04 - 1 to 2 teaspoons honey, maple syrup, or sugar (to taste)

# How to Make It:

01 - In a small bowl, sift the hojicha powder through a fine mesh sieve to remove any lumps.
02 - Add the hot water to the hojicha powder and whisk vigorously until fully dissolved and frothy using a bamboo whisk or regular whisk.
03 - In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until steaming but not boiling. Froth the milk using a milk frother or whisk until creamy and foamy.
04 - Pour the dissolved hojicha into two mugs. Add sweetener to each mug if using and stir to combine.
05 - Gently pour the steamed milk over the tea base while holding back the foam with a spoon. Top each mug with the reserved foam.
06 - Serve immediately, optionally garnished with a light sprinkle of hojicha powder on top.

  • Caffeine Alternative: A soothing option that is lower in caffeine than traditional matcha or coffee.
  • Fully Customizable: Works perfectly with both dairy and plant-based milks.
02 -
  • Temperature Control: Avoid boiling the milk, as it can scald and change the sweetness of the dairy or plant milk.
  • Frothing: If you don't have a milk frother, you can shake the warm milk in a clean, tightly sealed jar to create foam.
  • Water Quality: Use filtered water to ensure the pure, roasted flavor of the hojicha shines through without interference.
